THE YELLOW SCHOOL BUS....
THE SAFEST WAY TO GO!
School buses are the largest mass transit program in the United States. 480,000 school buses are providing daily transportation to 26 million students to and from school and school related activities - that's half of the country's students. This is 2.5 times the size of ALL other forms of mass transit combined, including city transit, intercity, commercial airlines and rail.
School bus transportation is 8 times safer than traveling in a passenger vehicle and is the safest form of ground transportation available.
Every year more than 800 school-aged children are killed as passengers in other motor vehicles or walking or riding bicycles during “normal school transportation hours.” Most of these deaths could have been prevented if children rode in school buses.
PARENTS: Please talk to your children and encourage them to be a safe rider.
Here's how each bus impacts our community
36 FEWER PASSENGER CARS
Every school bus takes 36 private passenger vehicles off the road. that means less time sitting in traffic, quieter and less congested intersections and a shorter commute for everyone.
180 MILLION GALLONS FUEL SAVED
Less time at the pump
Each parent who has his or her child ride the bus to school will save approximately 180 gallons of fuel per year, $663 in fuel costs and 3,600 miles from being put on the family car.
50 TIMES MORE SAFE
Our of Harm's Way
Students who ride the bus are 50 times more likely to arrive at school safely than when they drive themselves or ride with friends.
44.6 BILLION FEWER LBS CARBON MONOXIDE
Some 44.6 billion pounds of carbon monoxide are saved each year by using school buses instead of private passenger vehicles. Riding yellow means going green.
